Facts Not Fiction, Sunday 22 May 1960
Students from Magee Secondary School picket the Vancouver Sun to protest its coverage of a teen beach party a few days earlier at Spanish Banks. The paper characterized the shindig as a “high school liquor and sex party” and a “drunken sex orgy,” even though neither liquor nor sex were present.
The Sun didn’t bother explaining itself in its coverage of the protest, but a letter writer in the same issue opined that “there were “too many ‘adults’ who love to say ‘I don’t know what our younger generation is coming to’ after reading a lot of rot like your article.”
